100 years ago, the Fire Nation initiated a war for conquest. Fire Lord Sozin had the nation's most powerful Fire Benders bring a comet to a closer orbit in an attempt to magnify their bending power and achieve offensive superiority. The comet proved to be to powerful a conduit to control, ultimately plunging the comet to the earth. The impact shrouded the world in ash, blotting out the sun for decades. Mining the remains of the comet is now the only way for Fire Benders to harness their power.
